Dr. C. W. Fetter created this home page. It is a supplement to the Fourth Edition of Applied Hydrogeology, which was published by Prentice Hall, Inc.
The first edition of Applied Hydrogeology was published in 1980. Subsequent editions were published in 1988, 1994 and now 2001.
This book draws upon my 35 years of experience as a practicing hydrogeologist. I began my career working for a consulting engineering firm on Long Island, New York for four years. This was followed by 25 years as a full time faculty member in the Department of Geology at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, where I was department chair for 15 years. In the spring of 1996 I returned to the full time practice of hydrogeology, this time as a self-employed consultant. Over the years my clients have included the US Environmental Protection Agency, the Wisconsin Department of Justice, municipal governments, consulting engineering firms, corporations, insurance companies and law firms.
I received a B.A. degree in chemistry from DePauw University, (not DePaul University as indicated in the About the Author section of the text) and a M.A. in geology and Ph.D. in Hydrology from Indiana University. I am a registered professional geologist in Wisconsin, Indiana and Illinois and a registered professional engineer in Wisconsin. I was honored to receive The Excellence in Science and Engineering Award from The Association of Ground Water Scientists and Engineers in 1996 and the Wisconsin Ground Water Association awarded me their 1998 Distinguished Professional Award. I am also the author of Contaminant Hydrogeology. The second edition was published by Prentice Hall in 1999.
I now spend winter and spring on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina and summer and fall in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. I enjoy golf (which I play poorly), scuba diving, boating and travel.
